CFP: The media in contemporary Portugal: from dictatorship to democracy | NOVA FCSH 18, 19 October, 2018

We invite you to send a proposal to the conference “The media in contemporary Portugal: from dictatorship to democracy”, which will be held from 18th – 19th October of 2018 in Lisbon. The meeting will explore the role of media from the dictatorship period until the early years of the Portuguese democracy (1980s). Topics of interest for the submission include, but not limited to:

  • The media and the political and economic power
  • Work routines
  • Ruptures and continuities
  • Discourse studies
  • Censorship(s)
  • Legislation and regulation
  • Foreign perspectives
  • Cinema, poster and mural
  • Advertising and public relations
  • Methods and sources for the history of the media

Proposals regarding other topics are also encouraged as long as they belong to the same chronologic period. Likewise, proposals on the role of media from dictatorship to democracy in other countries will also be considered.

If you wish to participate in the meeting you must submit your proposal until 31st May 2018. The proposals must be submitted in a word document that should include an abstract describing the overall theme and objective of the communication (up to 400 words) and also a biographical note with the institutional affiliation and email of the author(s) (up to 200 words). We are accepting proposals in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

The proposals must be submitted to congresso.media.portugal@gmail.com.

The speakers must prepare a 15 minutes presentation that can be held in Portuguese, Spanish or English.

Registration at the Congress is mandatory and includes attendance at all sessions of the Congress, presentation of communication and support materials.
