Artistic reflection workshop at Trafaria with sculptor Helena Elias
The Re(com)figurations workshop is taking place at the Misericórdia da Trafaria facilities since the 16th and until the 20th of November. This workshop aims to problematize the notion of border and make present its geo-political implications through a confrontation with the affective appropriations of territories by those who inhabit the place. The proposal is from the sculptor, professor at FBAUL and researcher of the FCT Photo Impulse project, Helena Elias, in partnership with the European project T-FACTOR. Departing from
the photographs that register and constitute the borders of the African territories occupied by Portugal, which were taken by the border delimitation missions studied by the group of researchers from Photo Impulse, the artist proposes the re-elaboration of a map of Trafaria that starts from the affective experience of the participants of the workshop, thus reconfiguring the administrative and political map of
the territory. The workshop also involves the construction of temporary landmarks/sculptures that will be placed in the participants’ affective locations.
