Media and Family Observatory

Coordinator: Cristina Ponte

Integrated in ICNOVA’s Research Group Media and Journalism, this observatory aims at deepening the research on media in the family and in the generational context, namely with Portuguese, European and North American researchers, giving continuity to projects concluded and in progress.

The international comparative dimension is one of the main lines of this mid and long-term research, relying on the international experience provided by theintegration in the EU Kids Online network, initiated in 2006.

This observatory also integrates a collaborative interface with the research unit CICS.NOVA, materialized on a common research platform on the rapport between Communication and Society. This interface is carried out by the members of both units with similar backgrounds and research interests, extending a tradition of cooperation and mutual collaboration, namely between the team coordinated by Cristina Ponte at ICNOVA and the “Technology, Communication and Risk” team of CICS.NOVA’s Research Group Citizenship, Work and Technology, coordinated by Miguel Chaves.

This Communication/Society platform will allow the establishment of working teams from both centers, whenever it their common interest, in order to develop competitive research projects or provide services to the community.

This observatory currently integrates the EU KidsOnline Portugal project:
