{"id":1004085,"date":"2025-04-01T10:01:57","date_gmt":"2025-04-01T10:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.icnova.fcsh.unl.pt\/?p=1004085"},"modified":"2025-06-03T16:58:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T16:58:12","slug":"open-call-2nd-international-conference-of-photography-studies-icps-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.icnova.fcsh.unl.pt\/en\/open-call-2nd-international-conference-of-photography-studies-icps-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Extended Deadline &#8211; Open Call &#8211; 2nd International Conference of Photography Studies &#8211; ICPS 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"vgblk-rw-wrapper limit-wrapper\">\n<p><strong>Publishing Photography: materialities, narratives, assemblages<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Col\u00e9gio dos Jesu\u00edtas, University of Madeira, Funchal, Portugal<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>November 19 &#8211; 21, 2025<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The International Conference of Photography Studies to be held on 19 &#8211; 21 November 2025 at Col\u00e9gio dos Jesu\u00edtas, University of Madeira, Funchal, Portugal, invites proposals on Publishing Photography: materialities, narratives, assemblages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An initiative of the Regional Secretariat of Economy, Tourism and Culture, ICNOVA\u2014NOVA Institute of Communication, and the University of Madeira, this edition aims to explore different expressions, strategies, and media for publishing photography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite submissions that address the diverse challenges and dimensions of publishing photography, focusing on works that engage distinct materialities, narratives, and forms of assemblage to resist reified image practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proposals for oral presentations, artistic research workshops, performance presentations, and other forms of expression are welcomed in Portuguese, English, or Spanish, with a duration not exceeding 20 minutes, and a range of topics, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The disseminated printed photographic image (i.e. illustrated press, books, magazines);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Practices of publishing as strategies of resistance: the photo-book as a poetic medium;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-canonical or hybrid formats: the relationship between printed images and digital environments;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Established narratives and peripheral visualities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Archival orders: publishing as an \u2018unarchival\u2019 gesture;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Art, activism and public histories;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborative projects: shared authorships;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ecological processes in the edition of images;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Images as data streams: ubiquity and the poetics of montage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Submission guidelines:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We invite proposals for 20-minute presentations with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) Title and abstract of 500 words maximum (no references), and 3-5 keywords;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>b) The name of the author with current affiliation, contact details (email and mobile) and a short biographical note (around 200 words). This should be sent in a separate document.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two documents (abstract, contact details and bio) should be sent to&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:photographyconference@fcsh.unl.pt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">photographyconference@fcsh.unl.pt<\/a>&nbsp;in Word format, no later than 30th May 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Notification of acceptance will be sent by 30th June 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other details:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Communications, Portuguese, English, and Spanish languages are accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2013 Artistic\/hybrid presentations should be a maximum of 20 minutes and include audiovisual, sound, or performative actions. These proposals might be accompanied by a 3-4 minute short excerpt or an illustrated description, together with the abstract, keywords, and bibliographical references if needed.
